The Importance of Pediatric Hand Therapy: A Surgeon’s Perspective.

Dr. Berger is a Plastic Surgeon specializing in pediatric hand surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and microsurgical reconstruction. He joined UCSF Benoiff Children’s Hospital in August 2025.

Dr. Berger earned his MD and PhD from Yale University, where he conducted doctoral research in Experimental Pathology. He completed his Plastic Surgery Residency at Stanford University and a Hand and Microsurgery fellowship at UCLA, along with an international Hand Surgery Fellowship in China, sponsored by the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.

Dr. Berger’s clinical and research interests center on optimizing outcomes for children with congenital hand differences and brachial plexus birth injuries, advancing prosthetic technologies, and enhancing surgical education. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and frequently presents at national and international conferences.

Dedicated to global health, Dr. Berger has participated in surgical outreach and education missions in Haiti, Vietnam, Peru, Nepal, Trinidad & Tobago, and Mexico, collaborating with local surgeons to provide specialized care for children with complex reconstructive needs.
