Description: This presentation reviews the current evidence on kinematics of wrist motion, prerequisites for stability of the wrist and the role of ligaments and muscles in dynamic stability. In addition, a treatment approach including proprioceptive techniques will be presented.

Learning objectives: 

  1. Identify the prerequisites for a stable wrist joint
  2.  Recognize the elements of an intact sensorimotor system for wrist stability
  3.  Identify the anatomical structures (ligaments, muscles) involved in scapholunate and DRUJ stability.
  4.  Describe examination/evaluation process of individuals with injury of the scapholunate ligament and TFCC.
  5.  Identify interventions to improve wrist stability after scapholunate ligament injuries and TFCC injuries.

Olga is a Physical Therapist originally from Bogota Colombia. She worked as a hand therapist in Colombia for more than 15 years and is a Founding member of the Colombian Association of Hand Therapists. Olga moved to the United States in 2007. She worked at NYU Langone Health for 12 years, got her Clinical Doctorate in 2015 from Northeastern University.

She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and its Hand and Upper Extremity Academy, as well as the American Society of Hand Therapists where she volunteers in the mentorship program and translating educational resources from English to Spanish.

Olga’s clinical interests includes orthotic fabrication for the upper extremity, trauma and
arthritis of the upper extremity and chronic pain conditions.
