Description: This webinar aims to provide an overview of peripheral nerve injuries and will discuss surgical options for restoring function, approaches to postoperative rehabilitation, and therapy and recovery from a patient’s perspective. The session will offer insights into the multidisciplinary management of peripheral nerve injuries and highlight the importance of patient-centered care.

Objectives: To discuss surgical techniques for treating peripheral nerve injuries, including nerve reconstruction, nerve transfers, and tendon transfers. – To explore rehabilitation strategies, including donor activated rehabilitation protocols as well as novel research on surface EMG-based therapeutic technologies. – To provide a patient’s perspective and personal experiences on rehabilitation after nerve injuries, highlighting the challenges, achievements, and impact on quality of life.

Speakers:

Yusha Katie Liu, MD, PhD completed her medical education, graduate research in neurobiology, and plastic surgery residency training at the University of Washington, and is currently finishing her hand surgery fellowship at Stanford. She will be returning to Seattle in the fall to build a multidisciplinary center providing comprehensive care to patients after peripheral nerve injuries.

 

 

Jennifer Erickson, OT CHT completed her BS from Texas Woman’s University in 1999. For the next 15 year she worked as a staff Occupational Therapist in Acute Inpatient Rehab, Acute Care, and as a Traveler OT until 2013; when she started her journey to becoming a hand therapist and passed her CHT exam in 2016.  Currently she is working as the Clinical Specialist in Hand Therapy at Harborview Medical Center working mostly with Hand trauma, including nerve injuries.
