Topic: Current principles of rehab for digital amputations
Learning Objectives:
- Learner will improve understanding of therapeutic techniques for vascular cases.
- Learner will better understand medical and therapeutic management of giant cell tumors in the upper extremity.
- Learner will review hallmark signs and symptoms of scleroderma as well as interesting treatment pearls for this diagnosis.
- Learner will be able chose appropriate wound care items for hand therapy cases with wound/infection involvement.
- Learner will be able to appropriately demonstrate the overhead protocol for post-operative elbow fractures with posterolateral instability.
Bios:
Lauren Wlazelek, MS, OTRL, CHT is an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist at Hospital for Special Surgery. She received her Bachelors in physiology at University of Delaware and Master’s in occupational therapy from Thomas Jefferson University. After school, Lauren worked in the burn unit at University of Colorado which sparked her interest for specializing in hands. She completed the AOTA accredited Hand Therapy Fellowship at Stanford University. She continued her passion for education by co-creating a hand therapy fellowship in San Francisco Bay Area. At HSS, she is a member of the Hand Fellowship faculty, an educator to Orthopedic and Sports Residency programs, and a volunteer with the pediatric adaptive sport program. Lauren treats a variety of diagnoses in the upper extremity and enjoys working with patients of all ages.)
Michelle Hauprich, Hand Therapy fellow at Stanford is an occupational therapist and currently working as the Hand Therapy fellow at Stanford Healthcare. She received her bachelor’s degree in exercise science at The University of Scranton, and her master’s degree in occupational therapy at Trinity Washington University. She worked as a travel therapist around California and the Pacific Northwest for 2 years, in settings such as inpatient rehab, SNF, TBI and stroke rehab, and upper extremity/hand therapy. She is headed to Boston to continue working in hand therapy following her completion of fellowship with Stanford.
Jenna Rizzuto is an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist with a specialization in upper extremity rehabilitation. She grew up in NJ and is an alumni of the University of Scranton for both undergraduate and graduate studies. She completed an AOTA-accredited Hand Therapy Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in 2020-2021 and now has been a member of the team there since January 2022. She has extra credentialing in workplace ergonomic assessments and enjoys working with this patient population. She is excited to presenting to the dynamic hand therapists of the California Hand Therapy Association.
