Objectives:

Dr. Evans

  1. Understand general indications and contraindications to upper extremity replantation/revascularization
  2. Increase understanding of surgical considerations and techniques in various upper extremity replantations
  3. Further understanding of therapy considerations in the post-operative care of different types of upper extremity replantations

Mei-Kuen Chung

  1. Discuss the needs for hand therapy in developing countries such as El Salvador.
  2. Review the medical mission trip to El Salvador in July 2023.
  3. Identify considerations to path the way for a meaningful medical mission trips to developing countries 

Speaker: Brady Evans, MD, MBA

Dr. Brady Evans is an orthopedic surgeon and a clinical assistant professor specializing in the treatment of hand and upper extremity conditions in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery in the Stanford Hand and Upper Extremity Center in both Redwood City and Emeryville locations.

He has won honors and recognition for his research and scholarship, including the Richard J. Smith Award from Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School for the best clinical/translational paper presentation.

His research areas include the applications of virtual reality and artificial intelligence to enhance patient care and education as well as the management of distal radius fractures, surgical decision-making, and costs and outcomes of orthopedic surgical procedures.

Speaker: Mei-Kuen Chung, OTR/L, CHT, CEAS

Mei-Kuen Chung graduated from the Occupational Therapy program in Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She became a Certified Hand Therapist in 2018. She has been trained in Myofascial Decompression and is certified in Saebo orthotics for strokes.

She has worked for over 20 years in multiple settings including outpatient, inpatient, acute rehab, ICU, burns unit, skilled nursing, home health and psychiatric inpatient. She is now working in Stanford Healthcare Tri-Valley Livermore outpatient clinic treating clients with orthopedic and neurological conditions.

She went on a medical mission trip in July this year and will share her experience with us.
